Startup Story

The short version of a very eventful year: left a stable role, built a startup, learned a ton, and closed it with eyes wide open.

Context

I took a mid-career left turn from corporate life into startup life.

We built fast, tested aggressively, and documented the real story instead of the polished one.

What changed

  • I can now go from idea to live product far faster than before, with less hand-wringing.
  • I got a lot more honest about what customers actually do versus what slide decks predict.
  • I built confidence in running scrappy tests quickly instead of waiting for perfect conditions.

What I would repeat (and avoid)

  • Test first, narrate later: reality checks beat beautifully argued assumptions.
  • Tiny shipping loops are magic when the alternative is quietly polishing in a cave.
  • Constraints can be clarifying. You stop pretending every idea needs a six-month runway.
